Short and sweet from me this month... For a change! It has been so fantastic reading, seeing and hearing about all the fun, generous, colourful, courageous and hopeful things that many of you have been doing. The IC Facebook page has been buzzing even more over the last few weeks and it's been lovely.

Working alone, from home most of the time, for a raging extrovert (albeit with Long Covid) can be very lonely and sometimes quite difficult for me. But the increased chatter and many photos of such positive examples of churches showing their inclusivity to their communities has done my soul a world of good!

Increased traffic does of course also increase the attention we get from more challenging/unsupportive/antagonistic folks too, and that can be very hard. But I've been really encouraged by the willingness so many of you have shown to speak up, defend and protect our community. We will always have opposition. Some of which may never be prepared to consider our perspective as valid. However, far more are open to learning. When we are able to offer the time and gift of our stories, our experiences and make space for each other to be who we are, the blessings multiply. Grace is propagated. Highly contagious hope leaks out.

It's shocked me to realise I've now been in post for almost two years! Thank you for all that you each give to making Inclusive Church what it is, and what it is becoming. I'm reet proud of what we're doing and the progress I am seeing. And, despite the dire narratives of doom, gloom, blame and shame the media is full of, I am glimpsing more of God's positive plan and hope for us every day. Long may this continue!

I look forward to sharing more and hearing from many of you directly, at our AGM on July 20th.

New Churches, July 2026

We're excited to announce another bumper crop of churches have had their applications approved by the IC trustees. Please do connect up if they're near you or you know someone there!

East of England

  • Swaffham Parish Church
  • St Mary Magdalene with St James, Norwich - great awareness of accesibility needs on their website, with descriptions of seating options, counter heights etc.
  • Chesham URC

London

  • The Grove, Sydenham

South-East

  • St Matthew's & Paul's, Winchester - we like that these churches are not afraid to ask questions (just take a look at their website!)
  • St Nicholas Strood
  • Lavant Churches

North-West

  • St John & St James, Orrell Hey  - they have Morris Dancing!
  • St Thomas Lydiate and Downholland  - really clear about their facilities and what to expect.
  • St Cuthbert's Halsall
  • St Mary's Eastham

North East

  • The Haven, Darlington - another one that encourages questions.
  • Hope Church East Cleveland
  • St Mary's Cockerton

West Midlands

  • All Saints West Bromwich (with Saint Mary Magdalene) (known as Old Church)

Yorkshire & the Humber

  • St Mary's Kippax & St Mary-the-Less Church, Allerton Bywater, Leeds

This month we also share our sadness that Magdalene Community Church, the first church I officially visited to speak at as NatCo, has had to take the painful decision that they are pausing their gatherings. It may not be forever, but at this point they're not clear and there is a lot that is unknown. I've loved watching their journey, witness and community as it has evolved and fervently hope that, eventually, good will come out of this really difficult time. I have no doubt their leadership and members would appreciate our prayers right now.

We have now begun our audit of the IC directory so you may well be contacted to clarify something by us at some point, it would be super helpful if you proactively got in ahead of us to check your churches profile and ensure its accuracy. Please especially let us know if the contact details and page editors need updating! If you spot a church in our directory that you have concerns or doubts that they are inclusive in practice, (or they no longer exist!) please do contact us through office@inclusive-church.org.

I'd also like to make a specific request that you all check how your church have written about marriage/weddings on your websites. The vast majority do not state, but do clearly assume, heterosexuality as the default. I get why, but part of how we begin to shift the culture is by challenging that assumption. Even if you cannot (yet) marry same-sex couples, naming that they exist and you'd like to would be a positive thing to do!

Please don't leave people guessing. CofE churches, we have a short tutorial video to show you how to add the Prayers of Love and Faith tag on your ACNY page. If your PCC haven't yet discussed it, please do!

AGM notice

This year's Inclusive Church AGM will be held from 7pm, on Monday 20th July 2026.

It will be online and you are all most welcome to attend. It would be especially good to have our member churches represented.

To vote you must however be an individual member - the registration form will give you the option to check that.

Please register your intention/interest in attending at least 24 hours beforehand so papers and zoom login info can be sent to you.

Book Review: Praying by the Rules

Prayer is a central aspect of how we develop, learn and grow in faith, but it's also a topic that many people find intimidating or difficult. Finding the prayer language or style that works best for you can take a long time. This book explores some of that journey through the lens of autistic experience, combining contemporary learning and growing understanding of neurodivergence with spiritual inheritance.

On which note, I often get invitations to review books and new publications, and though I'd love to say yes to them all, realistically it's a task best shared out! If you'd like to be involved in this, please email us on office@inclusive-church.org - ideally including any special interests/topics, any accessibility requirements and other key info.

Direct Debits are a go-go!

I have no doubt that lots of you will be very relieved to hear we are now able to offer you to donate by Direct Debit! Hooray!

If you're already a registered member you should have received an email about this, but if you didn't or you're not sure that you are, you can sign up as an individual member through this super quick form, which will then take you to the DD set-up. In one smooth integrated, automatic spandanglingway. Can you tell I'm excited?!

This is all part of the shift towards increasing our capacity and sustainability. You do not have to be part of an affirming church to be an individual member.

Sign me up!

You can still donate via BACs, cheque, Just Giving or through our Shop page. Though these will be phased out soon.

Please make sure you provide a reference so we can record it correctly!

As has been hinted and promised for some time now... I am very excited to announce we have some merch available!
If you head across to our shop page in addition to the lanyards we got last year, you will now find button badges, tote bags, hoodies and t-shirts... The plan is for the clothing to be ordered on a 'click & collect' for those attending Greenbelt, for which there is a deadline of July 19th to get your orders placed. If you'd like something ordering in that batch but won't be at GB just make a note on your order and I'll post it out after the festival.
After the summer we hope to be able to offer some products year round. We're just testing the water a little first!
I've got some super slick mug designs too... So watch this space for more items!
