With General Synod elections nearly upon us, we still encouraging people thinking of standing to get in touch. Nominations open at the end of July and close early in September, so now is the time to decide if you can make a difference by standing for election. There are still places around the country needing inclusive candidates, and in many dioceses we aspire to have several inclusive candidates aiming for multiple seats. Once voting opens in mid September, Inclusive Church and our partners will be distributing a list of Supported Candidates. While some conservative candidates can be silent or misleading on their views, Inclusive Church Supported Candidates have all shown where they stand by signing up to the following statement: “I am committed to equality for everyone, at all levels and roles within the church, regardless of gender, disability, ethnicity, socio-economic status, mental health or sexuality.” We currently have 100 candidates across 35 dioceses who have signed up. If you are thinking of running in the election and would like to be on our Supported Candidates list, please contact Nic Tall (see below) saying you support the above statement. Nic can also provide you with a copy of the Inclusive Church Candidates Guide to the election, with information on the timetable, election processes, putting together an election statement and more.
