Services after Civil Partnerships or Same Sex Marriage
Services after Civil Partnerships and same sex Marriages
Inclusive Church has a network of churches and clergy who would be prepared to work with couples who are seeking a service of blessing following a Civil Partnership ceremony or Same Sex Marriage.
To help churches and clergy respond appropriately to couples asking for services of blessing after Civil Partnerships or Same –Sex Marriages there are a number of resources here that may help.
Legal Stuff for Church of England Churches and clergy
The advice prepared in 2008 for the Clergy of the London Diocese by Chancellor Nigel Seed is available here. It outlines the legal position based on the House of Bishops’ Pastoral Statement on Civil Partnerships of July 2005
In circumstances where clergy are contemplating any action which challenges the pastoral guidance currently issued by the Church of England on Same-Sex marriage, (in 2014) the LGBT Anglican Coalition may be contacted on firstname.lastname@example.org for further advice.
Sample orders of service for a service of dedication and thanksgiving
Inclusive Church has prepared material that can be used as resources for services of dedication and thanksgiving following a civil partnership or same-sex marriage.
Such services do not fall outside the remit of Canon B5. Any such service would not be an "authorised liturgy".
For advice on drawing a service together, or to help locate a church or minister who may be able to help with your blessing - please contact the Rev'd Bob Callaghan, National Coordinator
